vendakkai kulambu

INGREDIENTS:

Vendakkai/lady´s finger/okra  -1/4  kg

Onion-1

Tomato-1

Tamarind-small lemon size

Garlic- 3 or 4 pods

Sambar powder- 2  ½ tsp

Salt- As required.

For Seasoning:

Mustard seeds- ½ tsp

Fenugreek(vendayam)-1/2 tsp

Gingelly oil-2 tsp

Asafoetida powder-1/2 tsp

Curry leaves- 10 leaves

METHOD:

1.Wash the vendakkai in the water.

2.Cut  onion, tomato and vendakkai ,keep it aside.

3.Heat oil in a kadai(vessel for frying).Add mustard seed and wait till it crackles.

4.Then add vendayam(fenugreek), asafoetida,curry leaves, garlic pods ,onion and tomato.fry till everything gets together.

5.Now add vendakkai and fry for 5 minutes without adding water(this is important so that vendakkai won´t be sticky).

6.Now add sambar powder ,salt and some water and close the vessel to cook the vendakkai.

7.Then add tamarind pulp and allow it to boil for 10 minutes.

8.Now vendakkai kulambu is ready.
