KHARA PONGAL/ VEN PONGAL

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Raw rice – 1 cup.
  2. Moong dal(paasi paruppu) –1/4 cup.
  3. Ghee – 3 tbsp.
  4. Black Pepper – 1.5 tsp.
  5. Cumin seeds(Jeeragam) – 2 tsp.
  6. Ginger – small piece(finely chopped).
  7. Curry leaves – 10 leaves.
  8. Cashew  nuts– 5 nos.
  9. Water – 4 cups.

METHOD:

1.Fry moong dal in a frying pan in a low flame for 5 minutes.

2.Wash moong dal and rice,add water and salt, cook them together  in a pressure cooker for 5-6 whistles.

3.After opening the cooker,mash the content nicely.

4.Now heat the ghee ,add chopped ginger,pepper,cumin seeds,curry leaves,add cooked rice and   dal.

5.Fry cashew nuts in little ghee and add to the above content and mix well.

6.Serve with sambar(or) coconut chutney  and vadai.
